No Student Loan Payments Due this Holiday Season – the Freeze is Extended!

By Rachel Puryear

Around the holidays, this is a favorite meme I often see circulating:

Meme with red background and snowflake pattern, reading “All I Want for Christmas is for Sallie Mae to Lose My Account”.

I don’t think even Santa can pull that one off, but the Biden Administration did give student debtors everywhere a bit of relief that will make for a lot of brighter holidays – in the form of the student loan freeze being extended through January 31, 2022. The Administration also warned that “it’s the final extension”. The student loan freeze was initially set to expire on September 30, 2021, so four months is added to the pause.

So, if you benefit from this extended freeze, enjoy your holidays without making student loan payments this year. Even if you don’t directly benefit from it; hopefully you will enjoy that others around you will get needed relief, have more cash flow to spend, and will therefore perhaps be better able to spend holidays with loved ones.

Thank you, dear readers, for reading, following, and sharing. Here’s to your getting out of debt, and having more time and money.
