Water Dog Lake Park in Belmont, California
By Rachel Puryear
Okay, initially, I checked out this park in part because of its name – I imagined dogs of all kinds swimming around in the lake, and just enjoying themselves.
The day I went actually didn’t have very many people or dogs there, but it’s a peaceful and pretty local park nonetheless. Also, the park is named for a local species of salamander. Dogs are allowed on leash, though.
If you’re in the local area, it’s definitely worth checking this place out:

The 2 mile loop is a fairly easy hike, with about a 500 foot elevation change, and a couple short, steep sections. The trails are dirt, with some areas being a bit narrow.
See here for more about visiting Water Dog Lake Park.
