Fun Remote Income Ideas

By Rachel Puryear

For the most part, we don’t think of ways we make a living as generally “fun”. However, there are some ways to make money that are enjoyable. And if you want to earn remote income, there are even fun ways to do that.

Of course, work is still work, and every job will have moments that aren’t fun – c’est la vie. Your preferences will also vary by personality, such as being an more of an introvert or an extravert. But here are some ideas for earning money remotely that you can have a lot of fun at, and find interesting:

Happy colleagues laughing in the office together.

Blogger, Podcast, Video Star

If you are passionate about a subject matter, and you also know more about it than the average person, you could have a great time and earn remote income as an influencer with your own blog, podcast, or video channel.

Even if your interests are relatively obscure, the beauty of the internet is that there are still plenty of other people in this big wide world who also share those same interests.

Typically, influencers either make money selling their own products (see the next section about opening an online store), or they earn commissions recommending other business’s products – the latter is known as affiliate marketing. See here for more about affiliate marketing.

Opening an Online Store

If you know a lot about a certain market, relish becoming an entrepreneur, and are passionate about serving people; you could open your own online store. You can sell goods, services, digital products, or utilize affiliate marketing.

See here for more about opening your own online store.

Garden/Home/Pet Sitting

If you have experience with animals, gardens, and housekeeping; you could do garden, home, and pet sitting as a gig. You could do this locally, or use it as a way of traveling around relatively cheaply.

In order to get more business like this, building a reputation as someone trustworthy and reliable is key.

Sometimes, people are paid to do this – other times, they aren’t paid but do it anyway, in order to have free travel accommodations (or have a break from roommates). How you approach it is up to you – but you should be paid if you’re going out of your way from what you’d be doing anyway, or utilizing special skills.

Teaching Online

If you’ve got knowledge and expertise in a particular area, there’s a good chance that others out there would also benefit from learning your skills – and are willing to pay for that.

You could tutor students live, or create online courses and upload them to teaching platforms – the latter can be a particularly good way to eventually earn some passive income, too.

Marketing

Every business needs a good marketing strategy in order to thrive, and make great profits. That’s where a skilled marketer comes in.

Marketing can be fun and rewarding – you’re helping business succeed, and using creativity and insight into human behavior in order to do so.

You don’t necessarily need a degree to work in marketing – you can currently get a certification from Google inexpensively in a matter of months, in digital marketing.

Social Media Manager

Nowadays, companies utilize social media increasingly in order to help market their businesses and products, and cultivate and maintain relationships with customers.

If you’re savvy on social media and have strong customer service skills, you could help companies manage their social media presence – a fun and exciting career path that’s currently growing, and in high demand.

Surveys/Focus Groups

If you have great communication skills and enjoy voicing your opinions, you could join consumer focus groups, and take online surveys.

This is more of a gig than a regular job, but can be a fun and easy way to get some extra money in your pocket.

Secret Shopper

If you like to shop and are particular about the kind of products you buy, you could help companies get important feedback as a secret shopper/mystery shopper.

This is also more of a gig than a regular job, but it can be a fun and easy source of extra income, and get some free products along the way.

Secret shoppers are needed for both in-store shopping, as well as online shopping experiences.

OnlyFans/Subscription Channel

You’ve probably heard of people making a good living doing this, and likely even considered it yourself. Though OnlyFans is especially known for its adult content; there are plenty of popular, profitable subscriptions for all kinds of content. Even if you do go the adult route, no judgments – power to you, either way.

You can make a subscription channel to teach, entertain, discuss ideas, for artistic purposes, and anything else you can think of. Doing something like this can be a blast, and if you can build up a strong following, you can also make pretty good money with this.

UI/UX

If you’ve got a creative streak, and want to translate that into a digital format, you might consider a career in User Interface/User Experience (aka UI/UX). This is an in-demand field that can often be done remotely.

User Interface refers to the look and feel of a website, while User Experience refers to the experience a website user has – such as the ease or difficulty of use.

You don’t need to spend years getting an expensive degree to do this, either – Google has a certification you can do in a matter of months, inexpensively.

Peer Lending

Everyone needs to borrow some money from time to time. From buying a home, to starting a business; sometimes a little cash infusion can change a life for the better – perhaps in a big way.

At the same time, not everyone can qualify for loans from traditional banks – and it’s not always because they aren’t creditworthy. They might not have much credit history, they might tend to live below their means, or they might prefer to save up and pay cash for significant purchases more than using credit lines. They might have also fallen on hard times before, despite their best efforts; but since gotten their lives back in order.

Peer lending gives regular people the ability to earn income becoming lenders to their peers in this market. Doing so also helps others have opportunities in life which might not otherwise be possible – being a part of this happening can be gratifying, and lots of fun.

Kiva is one lending site where you can loan as little as $25, to change someone else’s life.

Investing (Small or Large Amounts)

It’s no secret that the rich easily get richer. That’s thanks to the power of investing – and the ability of money to keep getting you more money.

If you have large amounts to invest, the sky is the limit. But even if you don’t, there are still options. Vanguard, for instance, has diversified stock market funds you can invest in with as little as $1,000.00 – and even better ones if you can save up a total of $3,000.00.
