RV/Van Winter Camping in Quartzsite, Arizona
By Rachel Puryear
Winter and chilly weather season is just around the corner, if it hasn’t already reached your local area yet.
And – in case you hadn’t heard – housing and even space rent is ever more expensive.
Therefore, what if you could spend the upcoming cold and maybe icy months in a place that’s cheap to live, and also has relatively warm weather?
If you’ve got a camper vehicle to live in and the above sounds appealing, and you’re willing to go somewhere else for the Winter, then check out vehicle camping in Quartzsite, Arizona:

RV Community
Van and RV life has a reputation for being lonely, and there are reasons for that – not the least of which is not having a permanent location. At the same time, vehicle dwellers don’t have a lock on location loneliness – plenty of people living in fixed neighborhoods also don’t know their neighbors at all, or are far away from loved ones for various reasons.
However, there’s a lot to be said for the strong sense of community that happens when vehicle dwellers band together, and form their own vehicle-based families.
In Winter in Quartzsite, you’ll find a thriving community of others who live in their camping vehicles, and come together to camp there. No matter who you are, or where you are in life, you’re bound to make new friends there.
Free and Cheap Camping
Quartzsite is home to plenty of BLM land, which is free or very inexpensive to camp on. Of course, this is mostly dry camping, as there are not many electrical and water hookups. However, there are plenty of services in the area to dump waste, replenish clean water, and solar panels can provide electricity (there’s lots of sunshine in the desert, after all). There are also some services nearby which will come to you for these services.
There are also dozens of traditional RV parks in the Quartzsite area, if you prefer that – and these typically have full hookups and more amenities.
Weather
If you’re looking to escape Winter’s chill, and get away from snow and ice and subzero temperatures, Quartzsite boasts a mild desert climate during the coldest months.
Average temperatures (presented as high/low) are 75°/47°F (24°/8°C) for November, 64°/38°F (18°/3°C) for December, 66°/40°F (19°/4°C) for January, and 71°/44°F (22°/7°C) for February.
The nights are a little chilly, but typically not freezing. It’s doable in a vehicle.
Events
There’s lots to do in Quartzsite. There are lots of RV shows, many of which are free. There’s plenty of natural beauty there and nearby to explore.
Quartzsite also hosts world-famous gem, mineral, and jewelry shows and exchanges each Winter season. Many jewelry artists also come here to get their materials. Even if you don’t make jewelry, it’s great to browse through.
Location Proximity
Not only is Quartzsite in its own beautiful desert landscape location, but it’s close to plenty else to see, too. If you’ve got a camping vehicle, you can easily travel and see even more places.
The whole Southwest has plenty of natural beauty, national and state parks, and gorgeous scenery. Much of the surrounding area is also relatively mild during Winter. You could also travel to Mexico, which boasts warm weather during that part of the year in many cities, and of course plenty more to do and see.
