Remote Income Ideas for Parents
By Rachel Puryear
For many parents, remote work can offer great advantages.
Having some flexibility over your time, being at home with the kids more, and skipping a long and stressful daily commute helps mothers and fathers better be there for their kids, and focus more energy on their families.
Some parents already have remote careers. But for those who currently don’t, and are wondering what they could do remotely; it turns out that being a parent in itself has lots of skills transferable to many remote positions that are in demand.
Here are some remote work opportunities that could be especially good for parents with children:

Daycare and Pet Care
You already have experience providing care for others, and also know what a valuable and much-needed service this is.
If you have a suitable space for such, you could consider caring for other people’s children or pets within your home.
Selling Items Online
If you’ve got what it takes to be an online influencer, or you’ve got an eye for cheap items that could resell higher, or you can make items that others will want to buy; you could make money selling items online.
This option generally means freelancing yourself, but also offers a lot of flexibility, it is very remote-friendly, and there’s also the possibility of passive or semi-passive income over time, if you do relatively well at it.
Teaching Online
As a parent, you’ve got some valuable knowledge and skills. You help your kids with their schoolwork, you know about caring for kids, and you may also have knowledge about other subjects (like what you do for a living).
You could tutor children online, or teach online classes to adults.
Virtual Assistant
A great many traditional office assistant jobs can now be done virtually. Such positions range from basic administrative skills to more specialized niches.
You can work as a virtual assistant for a company, or you can also freelance as you choose. Either way, many virtual assistant jobs have some flexibility.
Consulting
Consulting uses a lot of the same skills as teaching, but you’re providing customized advice and support to a private party, in an area of your expertise.
Consulting can usually be done remotely, and offers flexibility. It also lends itself well to freelancing.
Customer Service
If you have multiple children, you certainly know a lot about resolving disputes, literally being the adult in the room, and dealing with complaints. That sets you up nicely to be a customer service representative.
Such positions are increasingly going remote, are in demand, and often offer some flexibility.
